Bansko sounds tough!! Hope you have a much better time in Plovdiv. Well done sticking with it!! :)

I reached out to a Bulgarian friend who sent me the following restaurants which came up on her search for vegan in Plovdiv. Not sure if you know all of them but there seem to be a couple not on Happycow so hope it's helpful! She says the last two on the list aren't vegetarian restaurants but it looks like they might have vegan options:

I'm so impressed that you've managed to stick with Veganuary somewhere like Bulgaria! I've being doing a half-hearted Veganuary but I fell at the hurdle of going to Austria to stay with a friend as I couldn't bare the thought of the looks on their faces when I told them I couldn't eat cheese, as they find vegetarianism strange enough! Plus, as you say, skiing is so demanding and the only vegan option in the huts on the mountains were french fries and I would have ended up seriously hangry! Are you thinking of trying to stick to veganism beyond January? Really pleased to have found your blog! Katie

Thank you! Today I'm actually just feeling so pleased that the end of this week has been such an improvement compared to the beginning. I'm glad to be in Plovdiv where we've been lucky to have good vegan food and such lovely people running the guesthouse where we're staying.

In reply to <a href="https://charlieontravel.com/vegan-travel-challenge-week-3-bulgaria/#comment-47285">Natalie Tamara</a>.

Hey Natalie, thanks for your support once again! It's been tough and not having that many fresh veggies around was really challenging. I agree, we've started to find some real vegan gems out here in Plovdiv and that's really unexpected and exciting! The vegetarian and vegan diet is definitely growing. You'd think the same about me as well (having always been vegetarian), but I'm a total wimp!

It sounds like you guys have done well to keep it up, especially without fresh veg to cook your own food. It's great to see that even outside of the capital there are cities with evidently growing vegan/vegetarian populations though, that much is encouraging :)

I find scenarios like 2 & 3 so awkward to deal with when there's a language barrier - you'd think years of veggie travel where that can still happen would harden me to it, but nope!
