In reply to Jacob in L.A.. Hi Jacob - the best way to find out is to actually contact someone who is in the area. When we went we were in contact with Luis, who runs the Ostional Turtle Lodge, and he was super, emailing to let us know as soon as it had begun. We had roughly worked out what month it would be from just googling it though. Hope you both make it to an arribada, it's an incredible experience!

Beautiful pics! My dad and I are visiting Costa Rica in a week. Do you know of any resource we can use to find out if our trip will coincide with an Arribada? I’ve always dreamed of experiencing this true wonder of nature. Thanks!

Wow! What an incredible experience to witness!! Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that I absolutely love sea turtles (and dolphins too)!! The way you describe the entire experience was beautiful and I am glad that your shared it through your words and pictures!! I especially love the pictures of the big sea turtles in the early morning light!

Wow, I’ve never seen anything like that and it’s amazing you were there to witness it. Once we were in Malaysia in Penang and we heard of something similar happening (probably in smaller proportion compare to the one in Ostional) and that they usually look for volunteers to help out, unfortunately we were there the week after the baby turtles had already made their way to the sea :(

I’m not sure how I would feel about the legalisation of egg harvesting, as you said I understand the reason why they do it, but I also think that nature should be left alone.. it’s hard to say and make a judgement about something I’m not involved with, but what if it gets out of control at some point?
