After hours hiking through endless white, a small settlement appears in the distance. The route through the Tatra Mountains in the south of Poland is surrounded by tall pine trees, the sky is covered with white cloud, and the path is barely visible under the snow.  At times, the path is so steep and the rocks so slick with ice that you have to scramble your way up inch-by-inch. There is no one else around for miles. Eventually, there is both relief and disbelief, when you finally reach this small shelter called Murowaniec.

  1. I guess that when the weather is mild you might meet someone up there, but there are far less people that hike there during the winter as Charlie and Luke did. Nice!

    1. Yes, we only saw one other hiker! When we continued through the settlement though, there were quite a few people skiing. I think that Zakopane and the Tatra Mountains are very different in the summer compared to the winter.

        1. I’m glad you like all my posts about Poland! I think not enough people know about what an amazing country Poland is – even I didn’t, I took a complete chance going there but am so glad I did.

The Tatra mountains look amazing in September! Thanks for sharing the photo :)

Happy travels to you too, Isabella!
